Selena Gomez not only gave a fiery performance at the AMA’s but also debuted a new tattoo.
The “Lose You to Love Me” singer shared a collage of Polaroid pictures on her Instagram account post her American Music Awards performance, which shows her getting geared up for her performance.
This photo was just one from many snaps the songstress uploaded to celebrate her return to the AMA stage, after two years, as a performer.
In the picture, Selena revealed her new tattoo, which resides on her upper left thigh. The original ink is a black and white picture of hands in prayer pose holding rosary beads, a fitting design for the religious star. Interestingly, her ex, Justin Bieber, sports a similar tattoo of prayer hands minus the rosary on his leg.
The tattoo was credited to the celebrity tattoo artist Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy, who is based in NYC. The tattoo artist was on a house call and shared pictures of the tattooing process, and he has worked with the singer for over six years.
The tattoo artist confirmed that he inked her after her AMA’s rehearsals on Thursday night. The singer wanted the tattoo for a while and finally got the opportunity to do the same. McCurdy also claimed that the singer didn’t specify the meaning behind her tattoo or the reason for getting inked.
The piece was tested on various areas of her leg to see where it looked good as McCurdy wanted to find a spot that would be unique for Gomez and would showcase the tattoo beautifully. The symbol took about five hours to complete, and despite being tired after the rehearsals, Gomez braved through the process.
Some of Selena’s friends were also present at her place when she got the tattoo done, and McCurdy said that it was overall a pleasant atmosphere, and they were enjoying Christmas movies while the symbol was made.
