About The Show…

Primarily written/created by Peter Morgan and produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for Netflix, The Crown is a historical drama web TV series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. It grew out of Morgan’s film The Queen (2006) and is based on his stage play The Audience (2013).

What all The Seasons Comprised of?

The first season covered the era from Queen Elizabeth and Philip’s (Duke of Edinburgh) marriage in 1947 to her sister Princess Margaret’s engagement falling apart to Peter Townsend (a Royal Air Force Captain) in 1955.

The third season spans the time interval between 1964 and 1977 that included Harold Wilson’s two terms as PM.

The hype of THE CROWN-

The Crown has been critically acclaimed for its writing, acting, directing, cinematography and relatively accurate historical account of Queen Elizabeth’s monarchy. It received several awards and accolades at the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards with Foy winning Best Actress in the lead role and John Lithgow for the Best Actor as Winston Churchill.

It received a total of 26 nominations for its first two seasons in the Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series. The series was nominated for Best Drama TV Series at the 77th Golden Globe Awards too.

Season 4 Will Revolve Around?

The fourth will include Margaret Thatcher’s premiership and introduce Lady Diana Spencer(Princess of Wales). Also, Season 4 of The Crown will tell the story of Prince Charles’ romance with Princess Diana as she’ll make her debut in Season 4 that will be played by up-and-coming actress Emma Corrin.

On January 20, 2019, Deadline confirmed the news that Gillian Anderson will play British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. It may cover Claire Foy’s cameo in the flashback scenes. Claire Foy portrays the Queen in the first two seasons, alongside Matt Smith as Prince Philip and Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret. For the third and fourth seasons, Olivia Colman took over as the Queen, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.

“Beyond excited and honoured to be joining The Crown for its fourth season, I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given a chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!” Corrin said in a statement released by Netflix.

Anderson confirmed the news, On September 7, 2019, via the official ‘The Crown’ Twitter account, “I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of the Crown and to have the
opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman. Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable, but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.”, her tweet said.

About Its Release.

The series was intended to last for 60 episodes over six seasons with ten episodes per season of 1 hour covering Queen Elizabeth’s life from her younger years to her reign. Well, there will be at least two more seasons as Netflix’s chief content officer revealed in 2016 that Peter Morgan pitched the series for a total of 60 hours. “The idea is to do this over six decades, in six seasons presumably, and make the whole show over eight to 10 years,” he said( source- The Hollywood Reporter).

Historically, seasons of The Crown have debuted in November or December, which means that the fourth season may hit Netflix towards the end of 2020.
