Ever since Marvel Studios announced its first Asian Origin Superhero movie, fans have been going wild about the news! The film is scheduled to be air with the title ‘Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings’.
The film’s director Destin Daniel Cretton shared the first picture on social media with the cast members which was taken after they had a meeting prior to the pandemic lockdowns. This movie is happening for sure, and here is everything we know so far about the details!
When is it Releasing?
The movie’s filming had already started in February in Sydney before it was halted because of the COVID-19 shutdowns. There are no official reports on when production will resume again. Marvel initially scheduled the film for a release date of February 12, 2021, but it has now been pushed back to air on May 7, 2021.
Who All Can We Expect to See?
It’s been confirmed that Simi Liu will play the title character, Shang-Chi. Also, actress Awkwafina has been cast, but her character remains unconfirmed. Tony Leung has also been cast for the role of the iconic villain from the comic books: The Mandarin.
Not only is the Asian community getting major representation with this being MCU’s first Asian Superhero movie after the popularity of an all Asian cast movie like ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ where Awkwafina also starred, but we also get to see Liu as the first Asian actor to take the lead role of a Marvel superhero movie. It’s wonderfully inclusive and progressive, and we’re here for it!
Do We Know Anything About the Plot?
Some sources report that the movie will feature martial arts, with the plot kickstarting with a martial arts tournament hosted by The Mandarin.
The tournament’s winner will be rewarded with the mythical Ten Rings from the title. Take all this with a grain of salt, however, as they’re mere speculations, so until Marvel releases an official trailer, we will have to patiently wait.
