Attack on Titan S4 Episode 20: A Review

This week’s episode titled “memories of the future” is heavy on emotions as it is entirely based on the past or the nebulous timeless space popularly known as “paths.” We see both Eren and Zeke struggling with their past, which comes across as a striking example of nature versus nurture. There’s always been a difference between Eren and Zeke.

The two siblings have always lived extremely contrasting lies, but in “memories of the future,” Zeke’s turn to learn how different their upbringing actually was. Unlike Zeke, Eren had not been manipulated or compelled into viewing himself as a weapon from a younger age. Instead, Eren had friends while all Zeke had was Tom Ksaver, who also had to act as a positive father figure to the ignored boy.

Despite their upbringings being a stark contrast to each other, they both end up in the same place. However, while Zeke’s experiences make him a sympathetic person, Eren somehow becomes careless and terrifying. Maybe because he himself chose the path to war for himself as against Zeke, who Grisha led.

“Memories of the Future” slowly transcends into horror movies once the two of them reflect back on their most important memory- Grisha assassinating the Reiss family. This incident is indirectly responsible for the generations of wars that have continued since the very beginning of the season, so it comes as a huge shock when Grisha decides not to commit murder or be the first to cause blood loss.

This hints at a future that wouldn’t be wasted in unnecessary bloodshed. It is none Erenwho manipulates his father into committing all these murders; it is he who is responsible for all this. The episode is ironic because Zeke aims to convince Eren of the truth, only to learn the reality.

Within just a matter of seconds, the impression of Erin changes in Zeke’s eyes from that of a victim to an abuser responsible for the generations of bloodshed that has taken place since the very beginning speed. This is heartbreaking fuzzy finally thought that he might have gained an ally in his brother, but in reality, they could not have been more distant than they are now.

Memories of the future are fascinating as they revamp the past in unexpected ways. This episode becomes important in answering the questions and accurately joining the dots of the past with those of the future as the lines keep getting blurred more and more.

The only word in the dictionary which can describe Lokesh well is "Curious". He is a man who sits in the corner of a café, sipping his coffee and watch others and write about them having a good time. Addicted to bettering himself each day. An impressive introvert who finds his home in the places he travels. It's either the power of universe or sunsets that sets his soul free.
