X by A24 is up on the list of releases in just a few days. The movie makes its way to the horror genre quite effortlessly. It is kind of a slasher film but mostly it can be described as a bloody homage to the old school grindhouse and video nasty films. If you are a fan of those then this one’s just the right pick for you.
The trailer of the movie releasing on 18th March 2022, shows that it is a combination of some nudity and terror, but also contains some comedy gags in between. Despite all these facts the movie is said to be the differentiator between the other horror films made by A24 and itself. A24 is believed to make cliched horror films which are quite like art-house horror films. This one belongs to the mainstream.
The movie is set in the 1970s and is a classic one I might add. The setting has been made quite familiar with the time period which is seen in the trailer.
It is quite evident from the trailer itself that the movie is going to have some of the most glorious kills seen in the horror films of recent times. According to sources, the movie is not all about horror. It explores several deep themes within it. To name a few it depicts beauty, the way getting old impacts us and the society, youth and how sex is still a taboo in the society and how it holds a different meaning for teenagers, adolescents, youngsters, and old ones.
Cast
Ti West has brought together quite a cast for himself. The film has names like Jenna Ortega, Mia Goth, Brittany Snow, Martin Henderson, and Kid Cudi to name a few. Ti is best known for his work in the horror genre with films like House of the Devil under his name. X is arguably being said to be his best in terms of visuals and editing.
Jenna Ortega had a great year for horror films with Studio 666 and Scream. She carries out her role here as well with perfection.
The role played by Mia Goth as said by critics is very daring in some aspects. We have seen her exploring so many genres and now that she is stepping into horror it is quite evident that she is enjoying the process which is quite noticeable. Mia Goth also has a dual role in the film. The elderly lady that we see in the trailer who is said to be the wife of the house owner is surprisingly her.
Now talking about Britney Snow who is best known for her films like “Perfect Pitch” and “Someone Great” does a fantastic job here. She makes the people talk about her which I believe is the first step for any artist to be recognized.
Kid Cudi’s appearance in the film comes quite as a surprise for the audience. His role is such that just flows with the flow. But it must be added that he makes his appearance noticeable in all manners in the film.
Performances by such great artists tend to elevate the entire benchmark on which the film is to set. People’s expectations seem to be going quite high with names like these and a banner like A24 being associated with the film.
Fan Base
The movie is such that would have a split fan base. There might be people who would presume it to be a normal horror film that has the same storyline as others. A film that includes killings would be one that is predictable. Here is where the audience is going to be wrong. From the trailer, they would be able to get just a simple glimpse of the film but not the story that lies underneath it.
The film is not as ordinary one as it seems to be. As mentioned earlier it is a mainstream horror film by A24 which is not what it does usually, the audience must try to explore and unravel what it is going to miss. The film is a shoutout to all the horror fans.
