The Summer I Turned Pretty is a romantic show based on teenagers. It uses our darling tope i.e. a love triangle to portray an enticing story. This show is very likable and everyone will root for all the characters, it is shown in such a manner. Susannah Fisher is one such character who is a delight to watch.
She is a mother of 2 children, Jeremiah and Conrad, they all live in a beach house, and Belly and her family join them for summer. Susan is a very deep part of Belly’s life, she considers her as a daughter she never had and wants Belly to be with one of her sons
She supports Belly and Belly also shows her love and affection for her. Both share a good bond and, Belly’s mother Laurel feels insecure about her relationship with her daughter seeing all this. Susannah is one of those characters which we want to see more in the show but season 1 events suggest otherwise
Her future in the show affects everyone including Conklin and Fisher’s home and according to the events we wonder about her future in the show. Let us try to find out about her future in the show according to the book series and get ready for some spoilers.
Does Susannah Die?
As the events of season 1 unfold it is shown that Susannah has been analyzed with cancer and she has already coped with this as this is not the first time. She had already done chemotherapy when it happened before and has kept the cancer in a dormant state.
Now it is back and to our surprise, Susannah doesn’t want to go through chemotherapy this time and wants to spend the rest of her life with her friends and family with all the happiness possible. She understands that this could be her last summer so she does everything in her power to make it perfect for her and everyone around.
Events of the Last Episode
In the season’s last episode Jeremiah finds out that she has been keeping this a secret from them and he is also shocked that Conrad knew about this but never told him. Susannah confessed in front of her sons that she will not go for chemotherapy this time, her sons argued with her to do it not for her but for them.
She was determined not to go for chemotherapy but later she promised her son to go for a new experimental treatment. This decision gives hope to her family and fans of the show but it looks like her fate is already sealed. If the showrunners decide to follow her story from the books she will be dead in the next season.
Reference from the Book
The first season follows the first book ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ and most probably the second season will follow the second book ‘It’s Not Summer Without You’. The book begins with Susannah’s demise before Belly’s family arrives at the beach house. Her death doesn’t exactly mean that she is entirely missing from the story. She is frequently shown in the flashbacks and in recalled by other characters.
So if the second season follows the second book we will see Susannah at least in bits and pieces. We may see her getting the treatment and if the writer chose to decide to let her live then maybe we will see her in the future. But her survival chances are very low as the route of Belly’s bond with Jeremiah and Conrad depends on Susannah’s death, so sooner or later she will pass away.
