Stream it or Skip it?
Itaewon Class is one of those Korean dramas which was overhyped, and people were waiting eagerly for the drama to release when they saw the trailer and the poster of the show. The show had an excellent appeal to it in the trailer, but the show was put down when it was released.
Judging from the trailer, people expected that the show would be full of action and gore, but it was much more convoluted than that. Despite the global charm of the drama, the series was cheesy and got superficial because of the plot. Some of the K-drama have minor flaws in their plot, but the problem with Itaewon Class was that it became overly dramatic; it had a larger-than-life plot.
The show could have been the best; the major flaw of this series is the execution, which began with a firm promise but did not have consistency. The plot developed steadily, but it fell face first because it became predictable when the climax happened. Mysteries and problems are more complicated than their solving capabilities, and no matter how worse the situation is, it always ends on a good note.
Moreover, big companies worry about their image getting tarnished if they are involved in illegal activities, but it is the opposite here. Another problem with the plot was during episodes 15 and 16, the attempted kidnapping and murder. The drama added blood and gore, which was unnecessary and irrelevant to the storyline.
But if I exclude the plot of the series, the cast has done fantastic work, which is the strength of the drama. The character development could be seen as the series progressed, and the drama shows how the smallest of characters is not merely a prop. Every character in the drama was given an arc to grow; the songs used during the scenes were good as they blended with the scenes.
Critic’s Opinion
The show will be fun to watch, and it gives the viewers some room for fresh air, or simply because you are an ardent fan of Park Seo Joon. In my opinion, viewers can stream the K-drama if they prefer the cast’s acting over the plot of the show. Moreover, the romance of the drama was a little different than other K-dramas because, in other dramas, there is a love triangle which is also present here.
But the difference in this triangle is neither of the people has mutual feelings for each other because of their actions. Also, Itaewon Class displays immense teamwork, and if we have the right people by our side and we appreciate their worth, then success is only a matter of time.
