‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ picks off where Minions left off. The year is somewhere in the 1970s, and a 12-year-old Gru lives with the dream of being the world’s best and greatest supervillain, opposite to how we have seen him as an adult.
He travels to meet The Vicious 6, a well-known bunch of criminals, intending to join. Gru takes a priceless stone with the aid of his Minions to prove himself to this gang. But becoming a villain isn’t as simple as he expected.
Soon after, Gru realizes he has become an adversary of the utmost evil imaginable and flees with his courageous minions, the Minions. To rescue himself, he seeks assistance from an unusual source: Wild Knuckles, the previous leader of The Vicious 6, whom Gru sought to replace. Gru will go on a journey to grab what he wants, no matter the cost, with his ever-faithful gang of old yellow monsters.
Conclusion
In all prior movies of the franchise, we’ve only seen Gru as an adult who adopts three children and marries a woman, abandoning his nefarious profession. The fifth part focuses on Gru’s youth and early years, detailing how he became the Despicable Me series’ great villain.
