Reminiscence is Warner Bro Pictures new science fiction thriller film written and directed by debutante director Lisa Joy. The film was simultaneously released in theatres and the HBO Max streaming service. The film has generated a box office revenue of eighteen million dollars so far and counting. The Filming of the movie began on October 21, 2019. The movie was initially scheduled to release on April 16, 2021, but due to the pandemic situation, that was kept on a halt, and the new release date remained unannounced for quite some time. Later, on August 11, 2021, the movie premiered at BFI MAX, and on August 20, 2021, the movie was released by Warner Bros Pictures.
The theatrical release took place on September 3, 2021, and the movie was released in other parts of the world on August 25, 2021. The release date further saw some changes due to the release of another film and was moved up to August 20, 2021.
Plot Expected
The story is set in Miami, where due to climate changes, the city is flooded, and the people of the city are forced into the nightlife as they cannot step outside during the daytime due to extremely high temperatures.
The lead male character of the story, Nick Bannister, opens a business with his friend Watts that allows people to re-experience their past memories. One day a female named Mae walks in as a probable customer, and Nick feels an attraction towards her instantly. They sing and dance, ‘creating new memories.’
Nick’s friend Watts feels skeptical about Mae, and to their surprise, Mae disappears soon after. Nick feels uneasy about her disappearance and goes on a search quest. The story further develops around different nail-biting incidents and revelations, which can be discovered as we watch the movie.
Cast
In the role of Nick Bannister, we will see an actor who needs no description- Hugh Jackman. Rebecca Ferguson is cast as the mysterious lady Mae. In the character of Nick’s friend Watts, we will see Thandiwe Newton.
In the recurring cast, we will Cliff Curtis as Cyrus Boothe, and Marina de Tavira will play the role of Tamara Sylvan and a few more skillful additional actors.

The movie received a rating of 5.1/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 166 reviews. The website also added: “Although Reminiscence doesn’t lack narrative ambition, its uncertain blend of sci-fi action and noir thriller mostly provokes memories of better films.”
Metacritic gave the film forty-six out of one hundred, with “mixed or average reviews.” The film received a “C+” out of “A+” on Cinema Score.
The critics from Variety commented, “a perfectly calibrated two-hour mirage of things we’ve seen before.”
The movie overall stands out to be innovative, ambitious but might be slightly disappointing to hardcore sci-fi lovers, who have their standards set for Christopher Nolan neo-noir.
