The Bay Season 3 recently concluded its premiere on ITV. And fans of these multiple Emmy-Award-winning dramas will be excited to know that the series has received a renewal for next season. Daragh Carville and Richard Clark serve as the show’s creators, which had made its debut on March 20, 2019. This crime-drama series adopts its name from Morecambe Bay, on England’s northwest coast in Lancashire.
Season 3 of this series concluded its premiere on February 16, 2022. DS Jenn Townsend, a new detective/family liaison officer, gets a breakthrough towards the recently concluded season. The finale was nonetheless choppy, paving the path for a new season. So, what should you know about season 4?
Has ITV Renewed The Bay for Another Season?
As per the official announcement, the Bay is now renewed for a fourth season. And this news has received acknowledgment from ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill. She expressed her enthusiasm for a fourth season in her statement, which confirms that the team will return to Morecambe again. She is ready to explore how creator Daragh Carville will be moving forth with the character of DS Jenn Townsend in the renewed season.
Hill further offers her heartfelt thanks to the team at Tall Story Pictures for working in fruitful collaboration to bring about this distinctive series. According to the renewal news, filming for the series will occur later this year. However, the casting announcement is not made yet.
Catherine Oldfield, who serves as the show’s executive producer, depicts her delight at the positive response to Jenn’s arrival and how this has passed on new energy to the show. She adds that she is excited to get started with the new season with Daragh and the rest of the crew and cast.
When will the Fourth Season be Released?
Since the renewal announcement has come through recently, a release date is not yet set for the show. However, taking a cue from the production pipeline of the previous seasons of this series, if the filming initiates early, we may get to see the fourth season by the start of 2023.
Season 3 was filmed in summer 2021, and it was made to the screens on January 12, 2022. Similarly, if the fourth season follows a similar timeline, it will not be an over-exaggeration to expect the show by the start of next year.
Who is in the Cast?
The casting announcement for season 4 is not made yet. But given the production team’s statement about DS Jenn Townsend’s prime role in the forthcoming season, the series will elevate Marsha Thompson as the lead once again in the next season. Marsha Thompson replaced Morven Christie, who played the lead in the first two seasons as DC Lisa Armstrong. It is not yet known which of the other characters will come back and the new additions to the series.
What can it be About?
As of now, the plotline for season 4 is not publically discussed yet. However, Jenn makes a breakthrough in the finale of season 3, as she makes a breakthrough through the investigation of Saif’s murder. According to Catherine Oldfield, Jenn’s arrival to Morecambe Bay, along with her plotline, has brought about a new energy to this series.
Thompson has also talked about her role in an interview in which she expressed her immense enjoyment of playing the role. The next episode will further explore her character, as she will solve new cases.
