The historical drama has become one of the most-watched genres in the past decade. Numerous shows made for audiences who enjoy watching this genre. One show in particular that has a unique story and has caught the attention of many viewers worldwide is Outlander.
About the Show
Outlander revolves around Claire Randall, a nurse working during the Second World War. One day, she suddenly transported from 1945 to the year 1743. There, she joins a group of rebels called the Highlanders, where she meets a Highlander warrior named Jamie Fraser. Out of necessity, she forced to marry Jamie, but the two quickly fall in love. They both then get involved in the Jacobite uprising of 1745.
The show is based on the novel series Highlander written by Diana Gabaldon. The books adapted for television in 2013 and the first season premiered in 2014. The latest and fifth season of the show premiered in 2020. The show also renewed for a sixth as well as a seventh season. The sixth season will have twelve episodes and will be based on the sixth book of the series, A Breath Of Snow And Ashes. One good news for the fans is that the show has renewed for a seventh season and will begin production right after completing the sixth season.
What Happened in the Fifth Season? (Spoiler Alerts!)
Claire went back to reunite with Jamie after learning that he was still alive. In the season finale, Claire attempts to keep her family safe but ends up getting captured by the enemy. She struggles to keep herself together while enduring the torture inflicted upon her during captivity. Jamie gathers a team of loyal warriors to rescue Claire. Season six expected to pick off right where season 5 ends.
What will the Plot of Season 6 be?
According to the book, Claire and Jamie will now face the politics and the turmoil of the upcoming American Revolution. Jamie, meanwhile, forced to choose between staying loyal to the British crown as a part of an oath he took or to find freedom. The television series plot has not been revealed yet, and there are no details either.
Who will Return?
A majority of central and supporting characters from the previous seasons are expected to return for the sixth season. Caitriona Balfe as Clare Fraser and Sam Heughan as Jamie MacKenzie Frazer are the main cast members returning. Also returning are Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield and Sophie Skelton as Brianna Randall. Jessica Reynolds will portray a new character named Malva Christie, and Alexander Vlaho will portray Allan Christie. However, there are no details yet regarding the other cast members.
When will Season 6 Release? Is There a Trailer?
Production for the sixth season began in early 2020 but stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sixth season at the time slated to release in early 2021 but indefinitely postponed. In March 2021, the show’s official Twitter handle posted a set photo, indicating that the show had resumed production. Sam Heughan also tweeted to the Dan’s that the cast had finished filming the first episode and couldn’t wait for the fans to see the rest. In December 2020, Heughan had shared another photo of the costume department at work, making costumes for the new season.
Production for the show is still ongoing, and as a result, there is still no release date yet. To add to the anticipation, the makers of the show haven’t even announced a trailer yet.
Outlander fans will have to remain patient for the new season. It will only be a matter of time before it arrives. The new season definitely promises more drama and excitement, which is why it will definitely be worth the wait. The fans, meanwhile, could rewatch the first five seasons all over again as a recap before the new season!
