According to what I’ve heard, following CBS’s stunning decision on May 12 to cancel Magnum P.I. after four seasons, Universal Television, which co-produces the series with CBS Studios, immediately started searching for potential new homes for the show.
The basic cable network USA rapidly emerged as a prospective contender, and NBC joined the conversation shortly afterwards. Recent emphasis has been focused on the two NBCUniversal linear networks as a viable option, despite the fact that Paramount+ was also mentioned as a possibility previously.

Why was it cancelled after 4th season?
According to the network’s president, Kelly Kahl, ending the long-running television series Magnum P.I. was one of the most difficult decisions CBS had to make at this renewal/cancel time of year.
The relaunch in its fourth season averaged 7.3 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), which is a little down from Season 3 (7.5 million/0.8) numbers.
Although CSI: Vegas (6.8 million/0.8) and S.W.A.T. (6.5 million/0.8), which had fewer viewers, were renewed, they ranked ninth in both categories among the 14 dramas that CBS has shown this season.
According to our sister publication Deadline, a mutually acceptable new licence agreement could not be negotiated with the major Magnum P.I. producer Universal TV. This is because dropping linear ratings decrease the amount of money that a network is willing to spend.

According to some rumors’, one possibility is that USA would run seasons that were originally shown on CBS, while NBC would be responsible for showing new episodes.
