The Witcher is a Polish-American web drama action-fantasy series that began airing on Netflix in December 2019. The Show is based on the books of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series gained massive popularity not just because of the books but also the immensely popular video game series. Cavill portrays the iconic monster hunter, Geralt Of Rivia, who struggles to find his place in a world where people sometimes cannot be differentiated from beasts. The first season follows three different characters’ arcs – Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer and the events that shape their characters. The story then merges into a single timeline that brings the three together on their quest.
Reactions the Show has Received –
The Witcher has received positive feedback from fans worldwide for it’s faithfulness to the source material. Approval is also given for the production design, cinematography, and action sequences. Cavill’s performance, however, has received mixed to negative reviews from critics and some fans. His performance received the harshest criticism from social media users on the website Reddit.
How does Cavill Receive Criticism? –
In an interview, Cavill spoke about the difficulties he faced while portraying Geralt in the Show. He adjusted his voice to sound deeper and perform action sequences in armor that he was not used to wearing. Cavill had prepared well for the role of Geralt and was also ready to face the criticisms that his performance would receive.
He also revealed that he goes through Reddit himself and reads the reviews that the users give on the platform. Henry Cavill has the patience and composure to go through those criticisms! An actor who accepts criticism well is good, and Cavill has entirely proven that.
The Witcher is returning for a second season, and Henry Cavill will be reprising his role. Production for the second season starts this year but it needs to stop in July due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production is expected to resume soon, and the next season is scheduled to release in mid-2021.
