The upcoming soft reboot of Pirates of the Caribbean is under development. Unfortunately, it seems likely that Johnny Depp is not returning to his previous iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow. Back in 2003, the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl had initiated the legacy of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. And, after the success of the fifth movie down the line, Disney in 2018 had announced that it is looking forward to another pirate adventure. It may amuse you that not one but two reboots are currently under very early stages of development.
Is the Worth Watching if the Reboot will not Premiere Johnny Depp in the Lead?
While the speculations about Johnny Depp’s return to his former role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming reboot are not yet established, it is presumed that he will not make a comeback. Instead, Disney is moving ahead with two soft reboots. One of these is a female-led pirate fantasy adventure that will have Margot Robbie as its lead. This version is significantly departing from the narrative of the franchise. Robbie is re-teaming with Christina Hodson (known for writing the Birds of Prey screenplay) for the upcoming project.
The other concerned reboot by Disney includes Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin as the writers. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing both of these projects, Elliott/Mazin’s reboot and Robbie/Hodson’s project. The upcoming reboots will undoubtedly further the legacy of this long-standing franchise, and fans will agree that after all these years, the significant changes are more than welcome.
If it is true that Johnny Depp’s return has been scrapped completely, Disney needs to work a great deal at addressing the gap with elements that will bespeak and represent the true spirit of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Moreover, Margot Robbie starring reboot promises a better vision at introducing a female pirate who stands amid the sea-faring adventures. Hence, given that a strong plot supports the reboots, fans will not have much amiss.
When will Pirates of the Caribbean 6 be Release?
Both planned reboots based on Disney’s theme park attractions are currently under very early stages of development. Hence, it has not yet assigned any release date to the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Since the previous movies under this franchise were released in May or July, making it to the big screens during the Memorial Day weekend, the reboots may also follow the traditional release pattern. But, the release timeline is not revealed, and it depends a great deal on how much the production period prolongs.
What About the Plot of the Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Reboot?
Disney has not yet shed any light on the narrative of the coming reboots. Margot Robbie, starring reboot, will follow the adventures of a female pirate and fall on different timelines compared to the previous movies. Robbie says it will favor “girl power,” and the key female elements the franchise will explore are refreshing, empowering, and exciting. Disney Chief of Film Production, Sean Bailey, has revealed that they are re-energizing the franchise with a renewed vitality. So, Disney is practically hitting the restart button carrying little or no hint to the past.
Hence, while very little is known of the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean reboot, it explores uncovered paths and opens up new avenues for strong narratives to follow. So, even if Johnny Depp’s absence will leave certain things amiss, the coming reboots promise to make a quality impression which will make it worth watching.
