The Last Kingdom Season 5 is finally coming to our screen. The bad news is that it will be the final season of this historic show which means that Uhtred of Bebbanburg and Anglo-Saxon England will no longer be seen. The Last Kingdom is a Netflix Original drama that is based on Bernard Cornwell’s- The Saxon Tales. Initially, the show was co-produced by the BBC and Netflix, but it has been released on Netflix from its third season.
Netflix never releases the viewership of any show or movie. This historical period drama remained in the Top 10 list for 25 days in the Uk and 10 days in the US.

In a conversation, Nigel Merchant, the executive producer of The Last Kingdom, said that he is sure that this show will entertain the world. Netflix confirmed the renewal of the fifth and the final season of The Last Kingdom on July 7, 2020. Alexander Dreymon has expressed his fondness of playing the role of Uhtred. For him, it was truly a beautiful journey, and he’s thankful that he had been offered such an opportunity.
Production Status and Release of The Last Kingdom Season 5
Shooting for this season was scheduled to commence in 2020. The entire crew and cast of the show worked following COVID protocols. The production was scheduled to start from November 2020 in Hungary’s Korda Studios. No official information was given by the team regarding its production until the release of an official video on YouTube titled- The Last Kingdom – We Are Back.
This video was released on April 30, 2021, on The Last Kingdom’s official YouTube channel. Some images from the ongoing production for the fifth season were revealed on social media. The pictures were from Blackhall Beach, UK. 28 images were released in which we were able to see Eva Birthistle.
The production of this season is taking an unusually long time. It was reported that on June 18, 2021, the shooting had been wrapped up for all 10 episodes. It is confirmed that this season will have a total of ten episodes. On June 22, 2021, Jon east posted that it’s a wrap and TLK season 5 in the digital can, which means that it is heading off-production.
The Cast of The Last Kingdom Season 5
This installment will have Alexander Dreymon, Emily Cox, Millie Brady, Eliza Butterworth, Timothy Innes, Finn Elliot, Ruby Hartley, Arnas Fedaravicius, Mark Rowly, Ewan Mitchell, Stefanie Martini, Jeppe Beck Laursen, Cavan Clerkin, Adrian SChiller, Eysteinn Sugaroarson, and Ossian Perret. There are reports that Ewan Horrocks might also join the cast and will play an important role in season 5. Ryan Quarmby, Harry Gilby and Phla Saban will also be seen.
Release Date of The Last Kingdom Season 5
Whether it may be shooting or production work, every part of the show is consuming a lot of time. We can say that this season won’t be released until the ending of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.
