Under the penmanship of Søren Sveistrup, David Sandreuter, and Dorte Warnøe Høgh, The Chestnut Man is a 2021 murder mystery series that aired on Netflix on September 29, 2021. The series is based on a book of the same name written by Søren Sveistrup. The series is expected to have six episodes filled with drama, suspense, and grotesque elements.
The series is centered around a killer who has executed many murders and goes by the name “The Chestnut Man.” All of his crime scenes can be easily distinguished by the presence of a miniature figurine made of Chestnuts.
What Did We See In The First Part?
Detective Naia Thulin has been awaiting promotion for a long time and wants to move from a field job to an IT job, but her boss is reluctant as he does not want to give up on one of his best detectives so easily. On the other hand, a Europol Agent named Mark Hess has to go against his wishes and help the local police force find the serial killer. The two have been paired by their seniors to investigate jointly.
Amidst the investigation, they discover the daughter of a high-profile minister Rosa Hartung has gone missing, and they relate the missing of this girl to the “Chestnut Man.” The audience is highly impressed with the skillful direction that has build-up hope for a second season. It cannot be fully denied that there can be a high possibility of a follow-up season looking at the first season’s finale.
The Second Part
The story has come to a full circle at the end of season one; Søren Sveistrup has not yet declared anything regarding a sequel. Hence it cannot be determined whether a second season will be hitting the screens or not. But we can always speculate the chances of the series being renewed for a second season.
Looking at the audience response from the first season, it can be easily said that the series has successfully won over the audience with its elements of thrill and horror. Søren Sveistrup’s novel on which the movie has been based was already loved by many, and that added to the audience being extremely welcoming towards the series. Many fans were actually looking forward to the novel being recreated for the screen. According to them, the story had a plot that could be successfully made into a show for television.
The first season has received an overwhelming response, and the possibility of the second season cannot be given up yet. Even though the first season has ruled out all the elements of mystery and horror, with the amount of success the first season has received, it is possible that Netflix will renew it for a season two, as they are always looking out for such series. The audience is expecting another crime story, possibly with the same cast as they have been extremely skillful in bringing their characters to life.
