Critics Review for Chucky Season 1
Viewers remember the killer ‘Good Guy’ doll through various movies, and now it is back in its TV form. The deranged story the show brings forth has magnified Chucky’s edge. With the right amount of gore, wise yet dark humor, Chucky is still as threatening as ever. The idyllic American town of Hackensack becomes wrapped up in Chucky’s diabolical plan. However, it also opens up the hidden dirty secrets of the natives living in the town.
The series, also working through flashbacks, exposes the untold origin story of the notorious murderer ‘Charles Lee Ray’, as it transforms from an innocent child to the murderer he is today. He has splintered his souls into various Good Guy dolls, and killing each of them is no easy task. The series has reinvented his character and brings his narratives by giving it a teen drama angle.
The best part is that the show is accessible to both long-time fans and newcomers who are not yet acquainted with Chucky’s misdemeanors. The comeback of franchise veterans, namely, Brad Dourif (as Chucky’s voice actor) and Don Mancini (writer of Chucky film series), makes the TV show an unskippable watch.
