After the huge success Parasite had and by winning Oscar, Korean content has once again become the talk of the internet. Squid Game was released on Netflix on September 17, 2021. The record-breaking series managed to top Netflix’s streaming charts and also became the first-ever Korean series to gain the first position in the U.S.
What Are The Updates?
If you have followed the interviews of Hwang Dong-Hyuk, you might know that Squid Game was created almost a decade ago, but the idea was able to be executed as there were not enough funds to make the production as huge as it is today. Now that the show has become so popular, fans are eagerly hoping that there will be a season 2.
When the rumors first began, and the director was asked about it, he denied them and responded that there are no plans of making season 2 of Squid Game. Even the cast, including Lee Jung Jae, who played Sung Gi-Hun, had told that he had no idea about another season.
Is There A Release Date?
Fans have been making theories about different scenarios, some of which are very interesting and worthy of a spin-off. Netflix has not renewed the series, of any official announcement has not been made about the new season, but we still have hope.
During the virtual SAG panel discussion with Mary Margaret, director Hwang told if he had to make a season 2 of Squid Game, Player 456, aka Gi-Hun, will be shown in a new light with a lot more anger against the creator and frontman and an attempt to show how humane he is will be made.
This seems right because Gi-Hun went through a lot while being a player. He witnessed the death of so many people. Even though he won the game in the end, it won’t be wrong to say that he has lost a lot.

At the end of season 1, Gi-Hun is on a call with his daughter when he sees another man playing to participate in Squid Game. Now that he has found the player’s card, he might go in as a player or become the new frontman of the game. What does the creator decide to do with the story? We have to wait and see. If there is a new season, there is no doubt in it creating the buzz once again.
The Squid Game is a phenomenon now. With so much hype and scope for a new season, will the director and Netflix come together is question. Multiple rumors suggest that there will be a new season, and Netflix is to make a movie as a sequel. What is on hold for the audience can only be known when an official announcement is made.
