Netflix has sanctioned the second season for the fantasy drama Shadow and Bone. Season one made its premiere on April 23, 2021, and the streamer was quick to renew it for season 2. The official announcement of season 2 was made in June 2021. The show adapts its premise from Leigh Bardugo’s novels, including the Six of the Crows duology and the Shadow and Bone trilogy.

Will Shadow and Bone Season 2 Release in February 2022?
The second season has moved swiftly into production; however, it won’t arrive on the streamer in February. The name of Shadow and Bone season 2 is not available in the February listings. And, this is because the filming has begun recently. The team made an official announcement that for its sophomore outing, filming was initiated in January last month.
A casting announcement was also made with this news. Once again, the principal photography is taking place in Budapest, Hungary. Josh Barry, who serves as the executive producer, made a post on Instagram letting the fans know that he is in Budapest, kickstarting the production in high gear.
According to the filming schedule, it will extend from January to July 2022. The team will also need to go through the post-production commitments. Thus, one can certainly not expect the show to release this month.
When can We Expect Season 2 to Release?
The second season of Shadow and Bone has begun the filming process. Since it is a fantasy drama embedded with special effects, the post-production process for the show is quite intensive, which may take around six to eight months.
Thus, considering that year-round work must be completed in the production pipeline, the earliest one can expect the show to drop by December 2022. However, expecting the release in the first quarter of 2023 would be a safer bet.
Who is in the Cast of Shadow and Bone Season 2?
According to the casting announcement that accompanied the reveal of the filming schedule, the cast for the primary characters of season 2 has been filled. Nikolai will be played by Patrick Gibson, Tamar by Anna Leong Brophy, Toyla by Lewis Tan, and Wylan by Jack Wolfe.
Other main characters will make a return. It includes Mal by Archie Renaux, Inej by Amita Suman, Kaz by Freddy Carter, Jesper by Kit Young, Genya by Daisy Head, Feydor by Julian Kostov, and Nina by Dallien Gilligan.
How Many Episodes will Season 2 Have?
Netflix has revealed that the forthcoming season will have eight episodes. Each of these episodes will be one hour long, just like the first season. The Darkling will continue to pursue Mal and Alina, who is seeking revenge and wants access to the powers of Alina. Bardugo has remarked that the plot for season 2 will surprise the fans, including the premise that runs across many of the books in the series.
