Shakira and her longtime lover Gerard Piqué have ended their relationship. On meeting on “Waka Waka” set to raise their children, both stars came a long way. But, it’s a heartbreaking moment for the fans and good wishers of the stars. On June 4, 2022, the pop star and her longtime partner announced their divorce in a joint statement.
“We regret to confirm that we are splitting,” the couple stated, demanding privacy for the sake of their children, who are their “first concern.”
The pair initially met on the music video set for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” in 2010. The song was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, held in South Africa, and it featured several football players, notably Spain’s Gerard Piqué. Shakira was drawn to FC Barcelona’s defense.
“I wasn’t a soccer fan, so I didn’t know who he was,” Shakira told 60 Minutes in a 2020 interview. “When I first viewed the video, I thought, ‘Hmm, that one’s sort of nice,’ and then someone decided to introduce us.”
Why Did Shakira And Pique Break up
The main question arises: Why did the 11-year-long couple break up. The possibility of separation has been brewing for a few months. In April 2022, Shakira and Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro released “Te Felicito,” which featured lyrics such as “For completing you, I broke into pieces / They warned me, but I did not pay attention,” and “I realized that yours is false / It’s the drop that overflowed the glass / Do not tell me you’re sorry, that seems sincere, but I know you well, and I know you lie.”
A few days later, a Spanish news site said that Shakira had found Piqué cheating on her and that he had walked out of their home. So long, the two have been together for a while; they have never been legally married, which makes the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer’s intricate taxes exactly as difficult as before.
