Netflix’s Keep Breathing comes after a streak of successes like Scream, In the Heights and Vida, by the actress and singer Melissa Barrera. It is a survival thriller that follows a foeman who becomes a lone survivor of a plane crash. Not a lot of information is out about the movie.
Martin Gero and Brendan Gall will co run the show on this series. If shows like Yellowjackets and The Wilds are anything to take inspiration from, plane crash survival stories are the talk of the town right now. Here is everything you need to know about Keep Breathing.
Cast for Keep Breathing
Melissa Barrera plays Liv, the main character, Jeff Wilbusch, Austin Stowell, Florencia Lozano and Juan Pablo Espinosa. The series will be in the capable hands of directors Rebecca Rodriguez and Maggy Kelly. Kelly who directed Dr. Death and Dirty John will direct the first three episodes while Rodriguez who directed Queen of the South and Doom Patrol will take care of the latter half of the season.
What will the story be about?
No official synopsis has been released yet. This means we don’t actually know anything about the story. Netflix however has shared a logline.
“After her private plane crashes in the remote Canadian Frontier, Lone survivor and New York lawyer, Liv (Melissa Barrera), must battle both an unforgiving wilderness and past personal traumas to stay alive.”
That is all we know about the plot for now. This isn’t much but for some reason still excites me about the show a lot.
Trailers for the movie
Since the series is not out till the end of July, Netflix has not released any trailers, which is standard procedure. A trailer will probably drop sometime mid-July or a few weeks before debut.
What we do have on the movie
Netflix has released a few first-look photos ahead of the release to give us a feel of what to expect from the camera work of the show.
Not much of the setting and feeling of the show can be captured by images but we get a good glimpse into Melissa’s character, Liv. She’s seen looking at her surroundings and assessing her situation. We also see Austin Stowell who plays a fellow passenger named Sam.
We see Liv near his body. Maybe he initially survives the crash and then dies while Liv tries to tend to him. One of the images also shows Liv using some sort of compass maybe, or a mirror in the thicket of the forest with sunlight beaming down.
Other shots are mainly Liv in the beautiful Canadian British Columbia province. The setting is absolutely stunning and makes for the perfect remote Canadian frontier look.
From these images I’m really excited about the series as there seems to be a beautiful landscape and some stunning camera work. The story is bound to be good given the lineup of directors, writers and cast. Tune in to Netflix on the 28th of July to experience this show for yourself for the first time.
