Saturday Night Live is among the top comedy show of the decade. The show is back after a three-week vacation to discover the world has undergone a dramatic transformation in the aftermath of Russia’s assault on Ukraine. Audiences aren’t in a smiling mood right now, much less even keen to see the series try to dig it for humor.
Fortunately, the performance doesn’t even attempt to utilize the war as entertainment, instead of giving up the chilly open to the Ukrainian Vocal Dumka of Nyc, who sang Worship service for Ukraine. If you are following this show you would be curious to know more about the tribute and how did it go. Here is all you need to know about the beautiful tribute to Ukraine performed by Saturday Night Live.
How did Tributer to Ukraine Amid War with Russia Went?
The tribute moved viewers, who took to Twitter and other social media platforms to express their gratitude to everyone engaged. The comedy show gave a heartfelt homage to Ukraine, which is now fighting itself against Russian aggression.
The Ukrainian Choir Dumka of York City sang in their own dialect as they gathered behind “KYIV”; The Ukrainian city, spelled out together with candlelight – on the show’s February 25th edition, which melted viewers’ hearts. Saturday Night Live seldom diverges from its typical structure, having done so in the aftermath of the September 11 incidents, the 2015 terrorist acts in Paris, and Donald Trump’s election as President of the United States in 2016.
The Tribute Melted the Heart of the Viewers
Usually, this comedy show begins each episode with some laughter. But the comedy sketch series begins with a tribute show to Ukraine during the current Russian invasion. On Saturday, the Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York sang the prayer for Ukrainian soldiers at the start of “SNL”. Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong from the cast introduced the choir which brought tears to the eyes of viewers.
The group sang the sorrowful song before a real audience and a desk of candles spelling out Ukraine’s country’s capital, Kyiv. This week, Russian forces started an offensive on Ukraine.
Recap of the Episode
A lot happened after the tribute. The notion of a hop revival comeback band is amusing plenty. Heidi Gardner’s interaction with her siblings in this performance was unusual enough to be amusing. But the entire comedy felt unfinished.
There were possibilities to delve deeper into the disparities between the bros and Mikey Day as Heidi’s bf, but they didn’t. A replay of the previous comedy in which a group of buddies had a difficult chat, cautiously discussing issues until crossing the line and engaging in comically silly ways.
When Kenan Thompson’s tie flying up, Kate McKinnon covering her face with small closing doors, and Heidi Gardner literally tearing herself away with Thanos’ Endless Gauntlet, those emotions hit a record high.
However, the point that we should force ourselves to have awkward conversations remains strong. So we commend them for persevering with this one, questioning the efficiency of mask requirements and all our Covid concerns.
