Terminator: Dark Fate is an American science fiction action movie. And the director of this movie is Tim Miller and the producer of this movie is James Cameron and David Ellison. With James Cameron returning to the franchise, Terminator: Dark Fate should’ve been a hit.
But the sixth movie in the franchise only amounted to $ 29 million at the box office during the weekend in the US box office. The numbers are less than what the industry was expecting. They’d hoped that it would at least come up to $ 30 million or $ 40 million.
Terminator: Dark Fate is on par with the last movie in the franchise, Terminator: Genisys. The 2015 film made $ 27 million over the 4th of July opening and $ 440 million worldwide.
Terminator: Dark Fate at least lives up to its name in the box office, at least. It is currently standing at $ 199.2 million worldwide after being released everywhere. The movie made $ 300 million worldwide after all the releases in the end.
Why did the movie get busted?
There could be plenty of reasons for a movie to flop. Above all, the biggest one of them could be the franchise itself.
The franchise itself has disappointed fans of the series several times. The third movie in the franchise, Rise of the Machines, had mixed responses from the fans as well as the critics. However, those reviews were comparatively better than Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys. The latter was supposed to be a revamping of the franchise, but it didn’t live up to the hype, and it is more of a mess.
Dark Fate’s plot ignored all the previous plotlines and stories, but the fans weren’t exactly excited about yet another reboot. Partly because the previous one was a disappointment, and so were the other last three times. So, viewers are not that excited.
Another reason for the flop is the lack of reviews. In the UK, the reviews weren’t put out until the opening day of the movie. And nowadays, the audience looks forward to the reviews to see if the video is worth watching or not. Therefore, this is also a reason for its flop. So reviews also play an important role to hit any movie.
Still, there is hope for Terminator: Dark Fate. Many movies do better when they are out on home entertainment format. Thus the franchise can even live; after all, they have promised the fans a better sequel. Stay home, Stay safe!
