Disney’s The Little Mermaid is all set to grace our screens soon and has the plot inspiration from the similarly titled movie of 1989 by John Musker and Ron Clements. The upcoming movie was made under the direction of Rob Marshall, while David Magee and Jane Goldman compiled the write-up. This live-action remake was produced by Rob Marshall along with Marc Platt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and John DeLuca.
Alan Menken made a comeback for composing the soundtracks in the film as he did in the original project and was joined by Lin-Manuel Miranda in writing the songs. Let’s see when this movie can be expected and who all can perform in it.

Let’s gear up to dive in the waters as The Little Mermaid is confirmed to make its presence as a live-action remake in some time now! Yes, you heard that right. Disney recently gave its word for the airing of the movie on May 26, 2023. The shooting for the film was wrapped up by mid of this year, but its release is definitely a bit far than anticipated, but we are hopeful that it will be worth our precious wait!
What to Expect From The Little Mermaid?
The story of this musical fantasy is loosely like the tale by Hans Christian Andersen, where it revolves around a mermaid named Ariel who wants a human life and to explore the world. For the same, she makes a deal with an evil witch named Ursula, who trades in for her voice in return to give her human form. The story follows her journey through human life and the challenges that she faces.
Who are All There in The Little Mermaid?
The lead character of Ariel will be voiced by Halle Bailey, who shared her excitement about working in this classic movie on the microblogging site earlier this year and also shared her look from the movie.
Joining her will be Jacob Tremblay (Room) voicing for Flounder (Ariel’s fish best friend), Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) voicing for Scuttle (the gender changed seagull companion of Ariel who helps her through her new journey), Javier Bardembeing chosen to voice the character of King Triton, Melissa McCarthy voicing for Ursula (the sea witch).
Jonah Hauer-King (World On Fire, Little Women) going for the role of Prince Eric, Jude Akuwudike is opting to lend voice to Grimsby (Prince Eric’s confidant and butler), Noma Dumezweni chosen to voice for Carlotta (housekeeper of Prince Eric ), and Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer, Hamilton) voicing for the friendly crab Sebastian.
Other than these names like Russell Balogh (The King’s Man), Noma Dumezweni (Black Earth Rising), Emily Coates (Warren), Jessica Alexander (Glasshouse), and Adrian Christopher (The Mummy) is also on the list, but their roles haven’t been disclosed yet.
Where to Watch The Little Mermaid?
So far it’s known that the animated film will grace the cinemas near us in less than two years from now. But is there a possibility for its OTT release as well? Well, so far, there isn’t any news about it releasing separately or simultaneously in theatres as well as on online platforms, and it is subject to change which cannot be assured as of now.
But going by the Disney+ trend these days, the movies of Disney+ are getting theatrical releases, so what’s in store for The Little Mermaid is uncertain right now.
