In 2018 Jon Turtletaub directed the science fiction action movie “The Meg”. A screenplay written by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber. It has been adapted from Steve Alten’s 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. We can all agree that it’s not a massive surprise that the summer smash hit of 2018 is also getting a sequel. The Filming of Meg 2: The Trench Has Already Started
During Meg’s April 2018 press conference, director Jason Statham said a sequel would likely follow it. If it did well with the critics. Catherine Xujun Ying, the executive producer, announced in October 2018 that the sequel was in its early stages of development. Earlier in the 2019 year, it was announced a script was being written for the film. And, in his newsletter from September 2020, Steve Alten expected the script, titled Meg 2: The trench, to be finished, noting that the film could be restricted for children and that British director Ben Wheatley would direct.
Jason Statham also told USA Today that, in accordance with him, filming would start in January 2022 and that Ben Wheatley would direct.
How Long Until The Meg 2: The Trench Hits Cinemas?
A sequel to The Meg won’t be released for a few more months if it follows the production timeline of the original. Wheatley’s script is complete, and filming begun in the mid-2021 timeframe. In 2022, we can probably expect post-production to consume most of the year since visual effects will probably be bigger and better. By 2023, August 4, the movie will be releasing, and we expect that the film will be a summer blockbuster.
The Cast of The Meg 2: The Trench
We can rely on Jason Statham to return as Jonas Taylor, the hero. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Statham would be involved creatively in Ben Wheatley’s film. Although there has been no official announcement of the supporting cast, we can assume Chinese actress Li Bingbing is another shoo-in. Her character Suyin creates a powerful romantic bond with Taylor. In addition to Page Kennedy, Ruby Rose also has a chance to return as part of Taylor’s surviving crew.

Even though The Meg is primarily a coming-of-age story for Jonas (combined with him realizing that he’s not ready for a relationship but still interested in Suyin), the film moves on to Jonas’s contemplating spending some time with Suyin her daughter Meiying played by Sophia Cai. Furthermore, Megalodons are heard in the film’s final scene, meaning that more specimens of its species have escaped from the depths and are poised to unleash mayhem. The plot details of Meg 2 have been scant, but the title indicates a bit about its nature.
