The Storyline of Ordinary Joe
Ordinary Joe is the story about an ordinary guy named Joe who, at the time of his graduation, follows three paths of life with three different professions, namely, a musician, a nurse, and a NYPD officer. In the first scene of the series, he is shown standing at a crossover with three different paths that lead to three different destinations, which symbolizes the dilemma and confusion he was in a while making decisions about his life.
The scene came with the poem of Robert Frost, ‘The Road Not Taken,’ which is about taking a different path in life and not the one taken by every other person. In the first path, Joe fulfills his dream of becoming a musician and marries Amy. But here, he has a childless marriage, leading him to follow his second dream.
He breaks off with Amy to marry his long-time best friend Jenny, with whom he fulfills the desires of having a son. But here, his job as a night shift nurse upsets him, and he goes on to fulfill his third dream of being an NYPD officer like his father. But unfortunately, he got a divorce from Jenny, which left him single and without a family in the third path.

The show is criticized because it attempted to have three lives simultaneously. It couldn’t be sure if it is a musical drama, medical drama, crime thriller drama. It is very plain, which doesn’t impress many viewers and doesn’t require the viewers to use their intelligence. The show is also criticized for having no real message and perspective.

The series doesn’t seem to have much of any real message. The only message we can learn from the show is that no matter whichever path we choose in life, life will always have hardships from one side or the other.
