Police academy filming locations
The opening portions were shot in the Ontario city of Toronto. The sequence with the camera booth was shot on the Cherry Street Bridge in Toronto. Originally the Etobicoke Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital, the facility that presently houses the Lakeshore campus of Humber College was formerly the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital.
Since then, the site has been transformed into the Academy. The studio sequences were filmed at Lakeshore Film Studios, while the city scenes were filmed in various places across the city of Toronto.
The bar that inspired the movie’s Blue Oyster Bar is really named The Silver Dollar Bar and is situated on Spadina Avenue in Toronto. The riot scenes were filmed in Kensington Market in Toronto.

Hugh Wilson made his directorial debut in 1984 with the comedy film Police Academy, which was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and directed by Hugh Wilson.
The Academy of an anonymous police department is required to accept any candidate who wants to try out for a post as a police officer, according to a new recruitment policy.
Any recruit who desires to try out for a job as a police officer must comply with this regulation. The film featured Steve Guttenberg, Kim Cattrall, and G.W. Bailey in leading roles.
The Ladd Company was responsible for producing the film. The first airing occurred on March 23, 1984. In contrast to its $4.5 million budget, it grossed over $149 million worldwide during its opening weekend, and it remains the most successful film in the franchise as of 2022. The first film in the Police Academy series spawned five further features.
Movie plot
Mary Sue Beal, the mayor of an unnamed city, orders the acceptance of all recruits. Easy-going Police Captain Reed offers Carey Mahoney the option of attending a police academy or going to jail. Mahoney agrees to the former, but he intends to fail so miserably that he is expelled.
Infuriated by the mayor’s plan, Henry Hurst intends to force the new recruits to resign. Despite Lieutenant Thaddeus Harris, Commandant Eric Lassard wants to give prospective cadets a chance. Copeland and Blankets are the squad leaders for Harris.
Lassard explains to Mahoney his agreement with Captain Reed to remain in police school. Mahoney becomes friends with Larvell Jones, a human beatbox, ladies’ man George Martin, gun-obsessed security officer Eugene Tackleberry, cowardly guy Leslie Barbara, accident-prone Douglas Fackler, and gentle giant Moses Hightower.
Cast and crew
The notion that a group of misfits can accomplish extraordinary feats when they band together was a common theme in many 1980s comedies. Following the release of “Animal House” in 1978, “Revenge of the Nerds,” “Wildcats,” and “Police Academy” were released.
“Police School” is a well-known example of the comic stereotype of a team of underdogs featuring a group of cadets who enter the local police academy when the mayor allows anyone to enroll. It was one of the most popular films of 1984 and spawned five sequels and a short-lived television series in the late 1990s.
