Here Comes the Boom (2012)
Source: IMDb

Even if you thought so, the story of Here Comes the Boom isn’t inspired by true events. The story is a work of fiction by the writer duo Kevin James and Allan Loebbut. The presence of famous MMA individuals like Mark DellaGrotte, Joe Rogen, Herb Dean, Bruce Buffer, and Wanderlei Silva has given it an authentic touch.

Other prominent personalities gracing the movie are Bas Rutten essaying the role of the protagonist’s student named Nike, and Krzysztof Soszynsk, the UFC fighter in the role of an opponent named Ken Dietrich. But one thing that is really interesting about the film story is that it is somewhat like that of Mike Laurita, who was the wrestling coach by profession later turned to the dean of Thomas Jefferson High School, Colorado.

Under his guidance of the program, the school managed to win six league titles. But the program once faced heavy losses that pushed Laurita to play in mixed martial arts match. However, he lost the match, but he was able to earn $3000, which he used to help his students. Even though he was in his 50s, he still went on to play one more fight owing to the fact that he didn’t play well the first time.

It was actually the bet that he and his wife had regarding losing weight and returning to fight. He did so and went to play but got defeated by the younger opponent. Even despite that, he was cheered by his colleagues and students. So if you are of the believe that the film is a true story, well it isn’t.

What is Here Comes the Boom All About?
