American action crime drama TV show from the 1980s named Knight Rider is a work of creator and producer Glen A. Larson. Initially, NBC was broadcasting the show from 1982 to 1986. With actor David Hasselhoff in the lead, playing the role of Michael Knight, the series went on to becoming a top users’ choice watch.
The show turned out to be the final work of Larson at Universal TV, after which he shifted to the 20th Century Fox Television. The series is back into the news with its recent inclusion to Netflix. Continue reading to know everything about this 1982 masterpiece.
Knight Rider 1982 Plot
The series revolves around the life of a self-made billionaire Wilton Knight. He has to work for a pilot program for FLAG, aka the Foundation for Law and Government. When Wilton saves police Detective Lt. Michael Arthur post a deadly shot to the face, he helps him get a new identity via plastic surgery. Lt. Michael then becomes Michael Knight and is made the main field agent of FLAG by Wilton.
With half the pilot program being “Knight Industries Two Thousand” (KITT), Michael and KITT are called for circumstances requiring “direct action” as the only possible resolution. Devon Miles, FLAG Head, directs and guides Michael.
Knight Rider 1982 Cast and Characters
The series brings David Hasselhoff in the lead, portraying the character of Michael Knight (earlier Michael Arthur Long. He’s initially seen as a detective working for the LAPD. Furthermore, he has also played GartheKnight and was in another role as a kingpin who drives the famous vehicle called “Goliath.” For the voice of KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), we have William Daniels.
Then there is Edward Mulhare in the role of Devon Miles, the leader of FLAG, alongside actress Patricia McPherson who plays Dr. Bonnie Barstow from Seasons 1, 3, and 4. We also have Rebecca Holden as April Curtis from the second season, Peter Parros from Season four, playing Reginald Cornelius III or RC3, and Richard Basehart as Wilton Knight, i.e., founder of FLAG.
Knight Rider 1982 Spin-offs and Sequels
After the 1982 series, the saga of Knight Rider continued its narration with the Knight Rider movies from 2000, 2010 and a momentary release called Team Knight Rider. Another such TV film, also named Knight Rider, became a pilot for the 2008 TV show Knight Rider. In 1985, a spin-off show also came out. Titled as Code of Vengeance, the spin-off made its debut that year.
Three years later, With Dargaud as a publisher, Angelo di Marco created a French comic strip inspired from the series, named K2000.
Knight Rider 1982 Netflix and Other Streaming Platforms
Knight rider came out as a Blu-ray release too. In Japan, NBC Universal Entertainment brought the movie on Blu-ray with full episodes from all 4 seasons. With all its copies, props, and memorabilia, the series came out on November 27, 2014, as “Knight Rider: The Complete Series.”
In Northern America, Mill Creek Entertainment launched the full series on Blu-ray on October 4, 2016. This series release was available only for the Region Code A, i.e., for viewers from the U.S. Now, the series is out on streaming platform Netflix. You can also find the first season on Hulu.
