The 2020 comedy film filled with mystery and suspense, Hubie Halloween, is Steven Brill’s directorial venture while the script has been pen downed by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler. The latter also happens to produce the film alongside Kevin Grady, Allen Covert and Dominico Hadelo.
He also has acted in the film accompanied by Shaquille O’Neal, Julie Bowen, Kevin James, Michael Chiklis, Ray Liotta, Rob Schneider, Kenan Thompson, June Squibb, Steve Buscemi, Maya Rudolph, Karan Brar, Tim Meadows, Paris Berelc, China Anne McClain and Noah Schnapp. The film pays tribute to the late actor Cameron Boyce who also had to make the presence in the movie but died in 2019.
The movie got mixed reviews from the critics to post its release last year.
What is Hubie Halloween About?
The premise of Hubie Halloween follows the character named Hubie Dubois (essayed by Adam Sandler), who takes charge every Halloween to look after the safety of the people of his town Salem in Massachusetts, by keeping an eye on the activities that take place on the day.
He is seen residing with his mother in the town and often is bullied by the residents owing to his mental condition as well as the multipurpose thermos he carries everywhere.
But behind this silly man is a kind heart, which only his mother (essayed by June Squibb) and his local crush Violet Valentine (essayed by Julie Bowen) are able to understand. Just like every year, Hubie prepares himself to monitor the activities on Halloween and is faced by his suspicious neighbor, a local who is on the run and many individuals getting disappeared in unexplained ways.
Is Hubie Halloween Worth Watching?
Hubie Halloween, as the name projects, has no more, no less to offer. It just does the job as it is supposed to. The charm of Adam Sandler manages to keep him likable throughout the movie. Its uncanny resemblance to many previous horror films is silly, yet enjoyable but what remains entertaining is the moments in the movie that are a typical Sandler thing.
Despite the strange premise that the movie has added by the character of Hubie essayed by Sandler, the movie with all this will still make you laugh.
Although at times it does feel that the character portrayed by Sandler is overdoing stuff, at the same time, it feels relatable in so many ways. The cameos made by famous names surely managed us not to miss a moment on the screen. Overall the movie is definitely likable and watchable, at least once.
Should You Stream or Skip Hubie Halloween?
Our take would be to stream it. Despite the bad landing jokes and strange storyline, the movie will keep you hooked till the very end of 100 minutes. The movie might not necessarily be a classic masterpiece, but it stands out as a good Sandler watch, especially this festive season. The fans of the protagonist will not be disappointed by his presence in the movie and will thoroughly enjoy his portrayal.
