This is an American Horror movie that was released in the year 1947. The best part about this movie was that it used up only a minimal amount of $140, 000 and the cast used for the movie consisted of some not-so-popular actors who belonged to the same place where the film was being shot is Texas.
Hooper, the film producer, had to work very fast because of the restricted budget that he was assigned. Moreover, he had to fit in the rent in this budget, the equipment used, and everything, so it was challenging.
What is the Movie About?
The story is about Sally Hardesty and her friends who visit their grandfather Hardesty’s grave to study grave robbing. Unfortunately, Sally’s brother, Franklin, had paraplegia. But soon after this thought, they decided to go to the family homestead of the Hardesty’s. In their way, they get hold of a hitchhiker who spoke of the tales of his family, who had devoted their service to a slaughter house for years.
But then he cuts himself and takes a Polaroid picture and asks them to pay for it. Then, finally, he cuts Franklin’s arm with a sharp razor when they refuse to listen to him. And that’s when they are forced to throw him out of the van. Soon they reach a gas station only to realize that the stations are empty.
Back to the Homestead
When they return to the homestead, Franklin informs Kirk and Pam about a swimming hole, and the duo goes after it. They stop near a house where Kirk asks for gas, and Pam is outside. Just then, a man wearing a mask appears and kills Kirk with the help of a hammer. Pam enters a room and sees that even the furniture is made up of human bones.
And her every attempt to run away is a complete failure here. And here, that masked man hangs on her a meathook as he butchers Kirk right in front. So Jerry goes out to look for Pam and Kirk. And he finds Pam alive, but then the masked man kills Jerry.
Sally’s Search for the Missing Ones
When darkness sets in, Sally and Franklin go out to find their friends, but then the masked man uses a chain saw to kill Franklin too. Sally escapes from that man and rushes to the gas station, where they try to calm her down but instead, they tie her up here too.
