They revealed the series for the first time in October 2009, after the news that Nickelodeon’s parent company, Viacom, had acquired the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand. The boys aged 6 to 11 years old were the target audience.
In the months preceding the premiere, Nickelodeon and Playmates Toys released merchandise with the new character designs. The two-part premiere aired on September 28 and September 29, 2012, with 3.9 million viewers. The debut ratings for a Nickelodeon animated series were the highest since 2009, resulting in the series’ October renewal for a second season. Shows Plot
Hamato Yoshi (Splinter), while traversing Manhattan with his four pet turtles, encounters members of the Kraang, an alien race. Mutagen, an alien material, is utilized as a weapon against Yoshi and the turtles, and when it comes into touch with living animals, the Kraang undergoes drastic physical changes. Yoshi changes into a brown rat, and the turtles become humanoid creatures. Yoshi retreats to the sewers of New York City with his four boys, which he names after turtles.
The turtles are unable to contain a mutation outbreak produced by the invasion’s residual mutagen. When a misunderstanding leads to Kirby’s death as a consequence of the virus, April severed her relationship with the turtles. They do not earn her forgiveness until they protect her against Karai, who is momentarily in control of the Foot. Casey Jones, April’s new friend, assists her in defending the turtles’ lair from an assault. When Donatello ultimately creates another Kraang chemical, retro-mutagen, which permits organic beings to reverse their fundamental physical alterations, Kirby transforms back into his human form.
