Initially Screen Gems planned to make the potential sequel to the horror-thriller with the probable title of When a Stranger Returns which supposed to had Hayden Panettiere in the character of babysitter. In 2020, Jake Wade Wall, the writer put forth the possibility of a sequel with Bloody Disgusting that would focus on second half of the film and would draw inspiration from 2018 hit Halloween.
