Fans of Derry Girls have been anticipating its third season for since long. The show was renewed for its season 3 back on April 10, 2019, and since then, it has been a long wait. When will Derry Girls Season 3 Release?
The pandemic season had put the Derry Girls season 3 schedule off the track. After its renewal in April 2020, it was to start filming soon after in June. The delay was prolonged as the pandemic intensified, and Nicola Coughlan announced in January 2021 they were still in the waiting period for the restart of the production.
But, Nicola Coughlan, at the ending of October 2021, announced that the team was in Belfast, as they filmed for the show on Monday morning. Lisa McGee, the writer for the show, has also featured a clapperboard on October 4, 2021. As of now, no release date is confirmed for the show, but given that it is on schedule, it may drop in 2022.
Is this the Final Season?
Lisa McGee had announced in September 2021 that it is the finale season for Derry Girls. After three seasons, Derry Girls will bid us goodbye. For one last adventure, the show is on. Gerry, played by Tommy Tiernan, hinted in March 2020 that season 3 might be the finale. The creator of the series has also put a word forth about contemplating a film as a spin-off to the series. However, no concrete plans have been put up as of yet.

As of now, no trailer is available for the forthcoming season. The team has also not revealed any behind-the-scenes footage yet. Lisa McGee has revealed a clapperboard photo on October 4, as it remarked the initiation of the shooting. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Claire on the show, shared a half-cropped picture on Instagram. It featured her character’s pigtail and with the hashtag #ReturnOfTheWeeLesbian. It refers to the coming out of her character back in season one.
What are the Speculations for Season 3?
The premise for season 3 is not revealed as of yet. But it will take the characters back to 1990s Northern Ireland, featuring teenage disaster and great music. Nicola Coughlan says the script is the best among the three seasons. The second season had ended with a positive and happy tone as James walks back on his decision to escape Derry.
At the very last minute, he takes Erin to prom. The third season may proceed with a heartwarming romance between the two. The characters who played the lead roles in the previous season will be returning again. Hence, (Saoirse-Monica Jackson will be picking up her character Erin, and Louisa Harland will play Orla. Jamie-Lee O’Donnell will be playing Michelle, and James, The Wee English Fella, will once again be played by Dylan Llewellyn.
