The Haunted Mansion movie from 2003, based on the Disney theme park attraction of the same name, needed a remake. However, it claims to be unrelated to the original. The only thing that the new film has in common with the original is that both were inspired by Walt Disney World’s Haunted Mansion attraction.
In 1969, the eerie building in New Orleans Square at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, initially creaked open its venerable doors. The film, directed by Justin Simien, will center on a family who moves into the Haunted Mansion. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming film, from who will star in it to when production will begin.
When Will The Production Begin?
There is very little information available at this time concerning the mysterious storyline and script. However, according to Deadline, production on the film will begin next month. Rideback Productions, the team behind Aladdin’s live-action remake from a decade ago, will produce the sequel. In Atlanta, Georgia, according to TheDisInsider, production will take place, and the film will be released in theatres.
Although a release date has yet to be set, fans are anxiously anticipating the next updates on the family-friendly ghost thriller. One fan was shocked to learn that Rosario Dawson will appear in the next Disney film Haunted Mansion. As of right now, the Haunted Mansion theme is only a sideshow at the amusement park. The Muppets Haunted Mansion special from Disney+ will begin streaming in October; the company said this week.
Who All Will Be The Part Of The Cast?
According to Deadline, Rosario Dawson will join the cast of the Disney spook-fest on September 9, 2021, one day after Loki’s Owen Wilson revealed he would be joining. Cast members LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish were allegedly signed for the movie in July 2021. There is little question that the Haunted Mansion is hoping to duplicate the popularity of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean theme park.
This year’s Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, is showing that success can be reproduced. The film also became a franchise when it surpassed the $100 million mark in August 2021. Haunted Mansion, a film adaptation based on the Disneyland ride that opened in 1969, tried its hand at the big screen back in 2003.
Among the cast members were Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Tilly, Marsha Thomason, and Terence Stamp. The film was a modest hit, but it was dwarfed by the phenomenal success of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which almost shut down the box office that year and went on to inspire four sequels. According to Deadline, Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters, 2016) will pen the script, and Justin Simien will helm the camera for the new Haunted Mansion (Bad Hair, 2020.)
Who Is Directing The Movie?
Oscar-winner Guillermo Del Toro, the director of 2017’s gothic haunted house thriller Crimson Peak, was previously recruited to direct a Disney feature. Given Del Toro’s mastery of the fantastical, it made sense. However, that was not to be. In the end, according to Cinemablend, the 2010 version was superseded by the new one, which starred Simien. In Del Toro’s mind, the movie would include an older ‘Hatbox ghost,’ and it would look nothing like the one from three years prior.
