The famous Good Morning America show, which primarily highlights daily breaking news, interviews and covers relevant issues from various topics with many notified personalities, has been in the news headlines recently. But the publicity hasn’t been a positive one. The former executive of the show, Michael Corn, has been accused of sexually harassing an ABC news producer Kirstyn Crawford along with another female co-worker- Jill McClain, on several different occasions while they worked with the network over a span of many years.
Why is it in the News?
The accuser also mentioned that the organization did nothing to penalize him despite being well aware of the situation. According to a lawsuit filed by the victim at the Supreme Court of the state of New York, ABC network should have stopped the acts done by Corn as he indicated a tendency to harass female colleagues and made it challenging to work environment.
It was well in the knowledge of ABC by 2017 about the assault on the complainant by Corn in 2015 during their business trip to Los Angeles but gave it a blind eye. Instead, they promoted Corn higher in positions because of his successful commercial appeal and did nothing to remove him from the organization. This enabled him to continue his unlawful practices with the staff and created hostile surroundings.
But Corn has denied all the accusations against him and claims them to be false. He defended himself by presenting the shared mails between the accuser and the accused that did not indicate any false practices against her. Michael Corn also added that the two women had fabricated the entire story. He would definitely use legal actions to put false allegations on him and defend himself vigorously.
Meanwhile, an ABC spokeswoman said that the organization didn’t promote a toxic work environment and promoted equality and would address all the claims in the court. Michael Corn left ABC suddenly in April this year and joined Nexstar Media Group Inc. as the president of News Nation. Both ABC and Corn didn’t provide any explanation for the same. Next star Media also clearly stated that they had no comments to make on Corn’s work-life before joining their organization.
The suit also claims that plenty of other women co-workers complained about his misconduct to the network from time to time of assaulting, bullying, and blackmailing. Still, no action was taken in that regard either. For a decision to come, we will have to wait for a while till the higher authorities declare anyone guilty.
