What to Know Before Watching?
Jenifer Lopez is back after her stunning role in Hustlers, this time playing, well, herself-a popstar. JLo’s character Kat Valdez is all set to propose to her boyfriend Bastian, only to learn minutes before that he had been cheating on her. An enraged and confused Kat ends up marrying a commoner, Charlie Gilbert.
Only after marriage, she learns that Charlie is a regular guy who works as a teacher and is the single dad to a pre-teen son. What follows is an hour and 52 min of two people trying to make a marriage while constantly being under the supervision of the omnipresent media and fans.
Cast
Jenifer ‘Jenny From the Block’ Lopez plays the role of Katalina ‘Kat’ Valdez, a musical prodigy with faltering luck in love. JLoai isn’t the only Latino sensation here for her lying, and another Latin musical sensation plays cheating boyfriend. Marking his debut in movies with Marry Me is the Latin musician Maluma. The two have granted us some amazing chartbuster and feet tapping music.
Owen Wilson plays Charlie Gilbert, the lucky guy who gets to marry and pop icon. Other prominent cast members include GOT fame John Bradley and actor-comedian Sarah Silverman, Michael Buteau, Chole Coleman, UtkarshAmbudkar and Jamilia Jamil, with Jimmy Fallon appearing as himself.
The movie is based on the famous webcomic by Bobby Crossby. How I Met Your Mother fame Tami Sagher, John Roger’s and Harper Dill of the Mindy Project, the screenplay is written by How I Met Your Mother. It is directed by Kat Coiro, known for her behind-the-camera work in Modern Family and Brooklyn 99.
Music
Although lyrically shallow, the movie’s music aids the storyline with songs carrying themes of love and longing and betrayal. The music ranges between catchy with Maulama’sreggaeton pieces and soothing ones to compliment the sweet and vulnerable moments.
Lopez owns the ballads entirely in possession of her capabilities and versatility as a musical artist. The album has a total of 12 songs, and we’re not surprised. It is evident when you have two eminent pop stars as a part of your cast.
