Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex was earlier an American actor. After marrying into the British royal family she had to get away from her career. As an actor, she was widely known for portraying the character of Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits for seven seasons.
Prince Harry, full name Prince Henry Charles Albert David, duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton, Baron Kilkeel, formerly Prince Harry of Wales is the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales. He married Meghan on 19 May 2018 in

After marrying into the royal family Meghan became her royal highness The Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel. Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, officiated at the wedding using the standard Anglican church service for Holy Matrimony published in Common Worship.
They lived in the Nottingham Cottage in the Kensington Palace. The Royal family announced that they will pay for the wedding and it cost around £32 million in total.
Meghan’s wedding dress was designed by British designer Clare Waight Keller under the fashion house Givenchy.
Megxit – what is the term all about
On January 8, 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on their Instagram that they decided to step back as the senior members of the royal family and divide their time between the United Kingdom and North America will become financially independent.
Inspired by the term Brexit, their departure from the Royal family was termed Megxit and was widely used in the media around the world.
Their decision was described as ‘unprecedented’ but the Queen released a personal statement. On 18 January it was announced that both Prince Harry and Meghan will no longer be working members of the British royal family and they will use the “Royal Highness” style anymore.
The word Megxit became one of the top 10 words of 2020. The couple was given a 12 month review period in case they changed their mind, but they did not.
According to Harry the term Megxit was misogynistic and aimed at Meghan.
Why did Megxit happen?
The British tabloid was particularly cruel with their treatment of Meghan. She was allegedly facing racism within and without the family.
During their interview with Oprah, they told the world that they needed help from the Royal establishments in refuting false stories about Meghan in the press and getting her help for her mental health. Harry said that the members of his family are “trapped.”
The Queen’s relationship with the couple
The Queen made sure that the discussions held after the couple announced their exit was kept private and she released a statement stating that Prince Harry and Meghan will no longer be working royals but they will forever remain loved members of her family.
The Queen was reported to be shocked and concerned about the reputation of the Royal family after the couple appeared with Oprah.
Recently, Meghan and Harry attended the National Service of Thanksgiving with the royals after almost two years. The Queen is reported to have finally met the couple’s daughter Lili. She may also be a part of her first birthday celebration, a private function to be hosted by the couple.
