Inspired by Robert Silverberg’s short story of the same name, Needle in a Time stack is written and directed by Oscar-Winning John Ridley(12 Years A Slave fame). Ridley’s movie plays out like a short story, but more focus has been put on the romantic love triangle. When it’s Robert Silverberg, one can expect time travel to be a significant theme. The idea for the story came during a science convention The technical term used for time travel in the story is ‘phasing’.
The movie had a small theatrical run by Lionsgate on October 2021 and VOD. The producers cap is shared by Aaron L. Gilbert, David Twatis, Matt Kennedy and Zanne Devine. The premise looked potentially rich for an aching romantic tale and how time and technology can give form and structure to our relationships and our view towards them. So it’s unfortunate that the script disintegrates into nothing upon close looking.

Should You Stream It Or Skip It?
Needle in a Time stack is not doubted “stacked” with many excellent actors, but none could save this movie from falling apart. Any film would be lucky to have a stellar star cast like this, yet the combination of all these stars does nothing to bring alive a mundane experience.
A science-fiction romantic fantasy, the movie could do justice to none. For its romantic part, the chemistry was not set, and for most of it, the warmth was missing. For the science part, the ‘phasing’ was so nebulous and random that no one thy it was hard to keep track. It had gotten so messy. It is hard to root for the characters when the film never does the work to establish proper groundwork in the first place. In our opinion, SKIP IT. No amount of time travel could save this boat from sinking.
