The Universal Pictures’ upcoming project titled Oppenheimer will bring the ace Oscar-nominated director Christopher Nolan into the play and will be based on World War II. The production giant was able to bag the project after competing with other popular players like Sony, Paramount, etc.
Christopher Nolan, who is famous for movies like Interstellar, Inception, Tenet, The Dark Knight, has first time in a very long time stepped down from making a movie with Warner Bros, following a tiff which was related to the release of all their collaborative work for 2021 on the same day simultaneously in theatres and HBO Max.
Universal Pictures has, however, committed to extending the theatrical release of the movie Oppenheimer that Nolan is directing. Thus, it will be exciting to watch Nolan’s association with Universal and create yet another masterpiece for the viewers.
What Will Oppenheimer Be All About?
The story of the movie will be based on the famous book by Martin J. Sherwin and Kai Bird by the name “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.” The book has also been awarded the Pulitzer Prize and Duff Cooper Prize in 2006 and 2008, respectively. Christopher Nolan will be penning the screenplay inspired by the book.
The storyline for the movie will follow the journey of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (also known as the father of the atomic bomb), who created the atom bomb that aided to put an end to the second World War but eventually made its creator suffer the moral repercussions for the fatality that his discovery caused.
The Expected Cast Of Oppenheimer
Various sources have claimed that the star chosen to portray J. Robert Oppenheimer onscreen will be Cillian Murphy. The former has collaborated with Nolan quite a few times previously on projects like Inception, Dunkirk, and the Batman trilogy. He is famous for his role in the British series Peaky Blinders.
On the other hand, the female lead, opposite Murphy, is being considered for Emily Blunt. However, nothing has been made official, but if it turns out to be true, it would be the stars’ first collaboration with Nolan. She is in talks for essaying the role of the protagonist’s wife, the physicist who ran the Manhattan Project, which eventually led to the creation of the atomic bomb.
Emily has previously shared the screen with Murphy in the sequel of A Quiet Place Part 2 this year. The star is famous for her roles in movies like Edge of Tomorrow, The Devil Wears Prada, The Girl On The Train, Jungle Cruise, A Quiet Place, etc.
When Will The Movie Be Out?
It is expected that the production of the movie will kick start somewhere around in the early period of 2022. It will be shot on a combination of 65mm large-format film and IMAX 65mm to ensure the movie has a good quality display, just like his previous work Dunkirk and Tenet.
Consequently, the audience will be able to enjoy the film in theatres by July 21, 2023, making it a typical Nolan release who prefers mid-summer releases for his movies.
