Short Circuit is an American science fiction comedy movie released on 9 May 1986. The film is directed by John Badham and is about a robot called ‘Number Five’ who comes to life after being struck by a bolt of lightning. He gets a conscious mind, just like humans, which makes him curious to learn more about the outside world. So, he runs and escapes the military facility to live a life full of colors. A sequel to the movie was also released two years later called Short Circuit 2. The credit for coming up with the concept and providing the screenplay for the movie goes to S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock.

Short Circuit was majorly filmed in Oregon, United States of America. However, some scenes were also shot in Washington, USA. The Nova Laboratories that were shown in the movie were shot at the Bonneville Dam in Columbia River Gorge in Washington. The scenes also included some areas of North Bonneville, Washington. A couple of scenes in the movie were also shot in California. The Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park near Escondido Canyon Road at Agua Dulce and Santa Clarita were the two locations in California that were used for filming Short Circuit.
Specific Locations in Oregon featured in the film include 197 Hume Avenue in Astoria. The location was used to film the scenes for Stephanie’s house in the movie. Other locations in Oregon include Cascade Locks, Crown Point near the Columbia River Gorge, Portland, 185th Avenue, and the NW Germantown Road in Beaverton, where Johnny 5 drove the van. The car chase continued to Astoria- Megler Bridge in Astoria. Highway 202 of Astoria was where the gas station scene was shot. Steph was seen driving on Columbia Avenue in Astoria. On the West Marine Drive, Johnny Landed on Steph’s van.

Some of the sequences may or may not be explained logically, which was absurd to some viewers. But it is meant to be a light comedy in general. Number Five proves to be a very adorable human robot and manages to win the hearts of many. The movie was not rated PG back then, but now it has been done due to the use of bad language. This movie is suitable for watching with family. It has a 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb and an average score of sixty-one percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Google users have given the film 4.6 stars out of five.
