“Together,” directed by Stephen Daldry and written by Dennis Kelly, is a 2021 film casting James McAvoy, Sharon Horgan, and Samuel Logan. The story follows as a married couple realizes a few things in their relationship and themselves while stuck at home during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. The film started then production during a pandemic and was completely shot in the pandemic situation. The couple is referred to as he and she in the whole film.
The film throws a spotlight on real-life issues and problems usually faced by a real-life couple. The most of the film is shot in one part of the house, that is, the kitchen, which gives it more like a theatre play look. McAvoy and Horgan have given their best in their parts. Dennis Kelly’s script has given the film a mixture of complications and unraveled feelings while they manage to endure their relationship at scenes.

In one of the scenes, she gets to know about her mother’s sufferings and stands shocked while he stands in the distance watching helplessly. Together might be a film hard to watch with all the rawness and reality it portrays. She is a liberal woman while he is a conservative. Neither of them pleasantly spends time and focuses more on talks about complaints or their sexual life.
Both Horgan and McAvoy play their roles so well, and they make us believe in the saying, “a love that exists beyond hate”, they fit in perfectly in Dennis Kelly’s script. All the intimate scenes in the movie make us forget about how tired and exhausted the couple is. It throws light on Horgan and McAvoy’s perfect on-screen intimacy while they are seen making out in the film. It is their only son who is keeping them together in the whole quarantine thing.
More than half of the movie is about the couple fighting over their political views, then throwing shade on the American government and their ill decisions towards the country and its citizens. While all this anguish and quarreling tone throughout the movie is not fun, neither are the political talks, but there is a lot of rawness shown in the movie. It teaches us a lot about real-life situations and morals.
The movie also has pointed to prove that the lockdown during the pandemic has changed people’s lives. It has changed the perspective of us looking at ourselves and even at other people.
