If you have been anticipating the renewal status of Unforgotten, we have a piece of good news for you. Nezabytaya or Unforgotten’s crime-drama series has been updated for the fifth season.
Created and scripted by Chris Lang, the show had made its debut back on October 8, 2015, and to date, it has made a successful run for four seasons. The announcement status for the fifth season was made back on March 30, 2021, after season 4 completed its premiere on ITV on March 29, 2021.
Chris Lang made a big revelation back in July 2020 that he initiated the work on the script for season 5. He had posted an image of himself in his London Soho office working on the show. So, what’s the latest for the show, and how far has it progressed? We bring you the updates in this article.
When Will Unforgotten Season 5 Release?
There was a two-year gap between the first three seasons of Unforgotten. However, the gap had elongated to three years between the third and fourth season due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It had delayed the premiere date to February 22, 2021. If the show follows its common two-year rule, the series can see a probable Winter 2022 release date.
Chris Lang had soon announced the fifth season, with the production schedule resuming shortly. Given that the production is not delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, it is on track.
Chris Lang had taken to Twitter to tease a few announcements. He announced that Sanjeev Bhaskar would be back with a “new partner in crime.” Once the series airs in the U.K., it will be released shortly in the U.S. on PBS. After season 4 was launched in the U.K., it had arrived on PBS two months later. Each of these seasons in the show had consisted of six episodes, and the upcoming season is likely to follow suit. However, as Lang has teased the release of season 5 this year, it will not be a long wait till it arrives.
Who Be Will In The Cast Of Season 5?
After the death of Cassie in the fourth season, as she suffered a brain injury due to a car crash, Nicola Walker exited the show. Thus, in season 5, she will not return to the role of DCI Cassandra Stuart. Sanjeev Bhaskar will again play the lead role of DI Sunil Khan or Sunny.
A new ‘partner in crime’ will be joining him. However, it has not yet been revealed who will be replacing Cassie in the forthcoming season. As the series takes up new cases, new actors will fill the role, and some of the previous faces will return. It includes DS Murray Boulting by Jordan Long, Dr. Leanne Balcombe by Georgina Mackenzie, DC Fran Lingley by Carolina Main, and DC Jake Collier by Lewis Reeves. Michelle Bonnard and Jenny will play Sal by Janet Dibley.
What Is The Plot For Season 5?
The fourth season of Unforgotten had focused on Matthew Walsh’s murder, and what had happened to him comes out to light. As the case wraps up, Cassie meets with an accident, and even though they desperately try to save her life, her death becomes unavoidable during surgery. The team will try to cope with her loss and attempt to adjust to a new partner whose face is not revealed yet. Further details on season 5 are not revealed yet.
