Almost 30 years after the original movie came out, fans are now awaiting the new part Top Gun: Maverick. The new part that was meant to be released quite a while ago is facing consistent delays due to the worldwide pandemic and causing angst amongst the fan base. Firstly it was planning to release in July of 2019. So, the movie scheduled date already shifted for almost two years.
Worth the Wait
The actor Jon Hamm has made it clear that despite the devastating delay in release, the story, acting, and overall feel of the movie is worth it. Tom Cruise also spoke up after the initial few push-in release dates to tell the fans that they would have to bear with them a little longer. This movie is supposedly going to be an action-packed thriller, with the right mix of nostalgia to keep the emotions from the old movie alive.
Delays in Release
The movie was filmed from May 2018 to June 2019, but it still has not been released. Top Gun 2 supposed to release on July 12, 2019. But due to pandemic it pushed back almost an entire year back then. The next scheduled dates set as June 24, 2020, in the United States and July 17, 2020, in the United Kingdom. To the dismay of many excited fans, it again rescheduled for December 23, 2020. But with the ongoing pandemic still in full swing, the distributors have now set July 2, 2021, as the new date for release.
Observations from the Trailer
When the trailer finally came out, most people immediately pointed out the features it shared with another much-awaited trailer Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In December of 2019, the second trailer was released and stirred a lot of excitement amongst its viewers. In addition to these trailers, the Top Gun fans created a LEGO version that is also equally as great as the rest.
Cast and Storyline
Top Gun 2 will feature Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Iceman (Val Kilmer), who fought 30 years ago for the ‘Top Gun’ title at the US Navy Fighter Weapons School in Miramar. In this movie, however, they will reunite. The characters have evolved and made themselves different in so many ways. But the essence of the characters is intact and will be an interesting watch, especially for the fans of the first movie.
What is the Plot About?
Over after 30 years as one of the top aviators in the Navy, Pete’ Maverick’ Mitchell is finally a test pilot and making new records. Then he assigned to train a group of graduates and prepare them for a unique and dangerous mission. While training, he meets Lt Bradley Bradshaw, who is the son of his late friend. In addition to his fears, he now has to prepare the graduates for a mission that will demand them to sacrifice themselves to finish it.
So if you are a fan that has been waiting for this moment for the last two or even twenty years – your time might finally be here! When the movie does release, have fun, but most importantly, stay home, stay safe.
