Prey is a Netflix horror German movie. It landed in the top 10 shortly after its release, which means many people are interested in watching it. It’s about five men who are being stalked in the woods by some unknown group. Prey is quite short, and it just has a run time of 90 minutes. In that time frame, you can see many other worthy shows. The problem with Prey is its concept.
The situation created is entirely pointless; the fate of those five men lies in the hand of some hunter group. Why they’re following them is quite unclear. An unnecessary horror situation has been created.
What is All in Prey?
Five men are at a bachelor party. After a long hike, they return back to their vehicles. Someone starts firing at them, and a man gets shots in the arm. They then realize that it is not an accident, but someone is trying to hunt them all down. The film is a mess as you see these five men passing in the woods, having sprained ankles when any of the hunters can come and shoot them. Once you get to know the reason behind all this hunting, a realization will dawn on you.
We eventually see that the person behind all this stalking and hunting is a woman who has no connection with even one of them. Her daughter got killed accidentally by some drunk hunters. Now she’s mad and is after this group just because they’re men. Like, seriously? This is pretty much what all happens in the movie.
This all is some weird game. Once she even got a hold of three men, they were at her gunpoint, but she let them run. Why? Because instead of killing them, she’d like to chase them. Later on in the movie, she hunts one man whom she earlier had at gunpoint. Before executing him, she shoots him at his various joints.
Even these men realize that there’s no reason for hunting them, as they don’t know the woman and have no particular motive. She’s on a killing spree to avenge her daughter. She’s doing whatever she wants and likes. The storyline isn’t compelling, lacks a motive, and there’s a lot of unnecessary running. There’s no outsmarting the woman, no fighting plans.
They’re just running to save their lives. You’ll see a lot of running, hiding, and the guys fighting among themselves. In between all of this, there’s one revelation that the main character’s brother slept with his fiancee in the past.
Our Take
There’s no sense in the movie, and it seems like their motto does not make any sense. No twists and turns in the movie can make it the opposite of pointless, dull, long, and slog. There’s a lot of manipulative music. If you still wish to watch the movie, turn off your sound system as it adds tension. Whenever these hikers get a chance to make a good decision, we see something else happening. There’s a numbing sameness in the narrative. It’s better to know nothing at all.
