1883 is one hell of a movie to satisfy your thirst for the wild wild west; with gunshots, horse chase, and cowboy hats, it is bound to bring out the cowboy in you ( but will probably make you too emotional to ride that horse- gee, it’s a roller coaster!) It is a prequel to the much-celebrated show ‘Yellowstone’ and lays out the family tree and history of the Dutton family. Their bloody journey to the land they still fight for.
After Yellowstone’s amazing success, the creators of the show, Taylor Sheridan, with his amazing talent of observation and John Linson, came up with the idea of making a prequel to it, and boy, was it the best decision! As the premier immediately became the most watched on Paramount+.

ToggleWhat is the Show About?
The show follows the Dutton family and the German migrants as they set out to find new land to escape poverty and starvation. With minimum food supplies and dangers of all kinds on the way, Taylor Sheridan writes a heart-racing plot that will catch you on your toes. 1883 mainly focuses on John Dutton’s great-grandfather and their journey to owning the largest ranch in Montana.
The road wasn’t a smooth sail, and many lives were lost, so was hope. The characters on the show are more in the grey area, always on the verge of becoming a bad or a good character, which makes these characters all the more relatable and realistic as human nature is hard to stick to certain morals.
Situations make people who they are, and even in the show, we see these characters build with each episode, possibly on the way to becoming some great TV legends! Critics had a positive review for the show, and the fans couldn’t wait for the prequel after it was announced and went on a frenzy with the hashtags. We finally saw what all this excitement was about.
The Story So far: ”The Weep of Surrender.”
The Duttons have had so many tragedies so far that we are just left to wonder how this family will come to own the largest ranch someday. First, the Duttons and the Germans had to cross a river that witnessed many deaths and supplies as the German’s religion didn’t allow them to swim. And as if this wasn’t enough, they then were surrounded by bandits. This caused the tragic death of Elsa’s lover, Ennis.
Meanwhile, Ennis’s death causes Elsa to change completely and go on a violent rampant; only after meeting Sam does she feel like she can finally connect with someone as both have suffered similar incidents. And they make out under the eye of the tornado- WILDD!
Sam is from the Comanche tribe, settlers of the land the Duttons are passing by, whom the Duttons have to pay for their cattle to graze their grass. Sam comes with his fellow people to collect the tax when Elsa and Sam immediately connect on their first glance at each other. An intense storm with a tornado forces them to take cover; however, Elsa and Sam end up under the same cover.
Although Sam and Elsa’s romance seems rushed, the girl needs some happiness after all the faith she had to live through in the past episode. As if the tornado wasn’t bad enough, after the storm subsides and the people regroup, they realize that the cattle thieves are rounding up their cattle. Luckily they kill all the bandits and escape with a bullet to the butt!
