Creator of the mega-hit series Sex and The City, Darren Starr, blessed the public with another show they couldn’t stop watching. When Emily In Paris first premiered in October 2020, with icon Lily Collins starring as Emily, it was everything we would expect to see in an ideal France. From selfies with the Eiffel tower to the delicious french cuisine, the first few episodes were nothing but sunshine and rainbows for Emily. She is hired to provide an American perspective to a French company named Savoir.
Things turn in a different direction, though, as Emily, a non-native, struggles to identify with the French culture and find her place as she navigates through the world of marketing. Emily scouts for meaningful friendships in a community she hasn’t blended in yet. Since she is an American who can’t speak French, she’s shunned by her co-workers, and difficult to please her boss. Emily in Paris did not receive exclusively positive reviews, and in fact, the response was highly negative.
Yet, viewers couldn’t keep their eyes off the screen while seeing young Emily stumble and fall in a new country. The Netflix hit also received two Golden Globe Nominations in 2021 for its first season, which many people believed to have been undeserved.
Rumoured Release Date
For all those who are looking for another Emily in Paris fix, you are in luck! Although Netflix officially renewed it for a second season, it was announced through a letter that they released written by Emily’s boss informing everyone that Emily will be retaining her job in Paris. The season 2 release date will be made public by September 2021. Filming had already begun in May and was wrapped up by 4th August 2021.
Expected Cast and Characters
Along with the talented Lily Collins playing Emily Cooper, we will see old characters coming back to us. Lucas Bravo will play the skilled chef Gabriel Emily’s main love interest, Ashley Park will play the kind Mindy Chen, Emily’s closest friend in Paris; Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Emily’s impatient boss Sylvie; Camille Razat as charming Camille; Samuel Arnold as Julian, Emily’s enemy turned to a friend and last but not the least Bruno Gouery will play the witty Savoir employee Luc.
New characters will also be included in the renowned show; Lucien Laviscount will step into the role of Alfie, a charming Englishman that doesn’t fit into the french way of living either; Jeremy O. Haris is intended to take on a guest – role as Gregory Elliott Dupree, Pierre Cadault’s pupil, and an aspiring fashion designer, Arnaud Binard will play Laurent G, someone Emily meets while advertising for her brand who has a mysterious connection to the company Emily works for.
Expected Storyline
Creator Darren Star has given us some idea about what he plans to do for the upcoming season. Emily will finally begin to adapt to the Parisian community and develop a satisfying life for herself there. She will also have difficult decisions to make that will be elaborated on in the second season. Even though she’ll be more familiar with France, her American point of view and inability to speak basic French will still create dilemmas that she will have a hard time dodging. The season will also delve into the lives of the side characters and their relationships with Emily.
