The true-crime mini-series is based on the actual murders of William and Patricia Wycherley in 1998. The series of four parts explores the lives of a typical British couple who now live in Paris, France. Susan and Christopher Edwards are a modest yet financially struggling British couple living in France’s 90s. The family of two have escapist tendencies, using fantasies to escape from their difficult lives.
This romantically-inclined escapism results from their lifestyle and the social issue of unemployment which blankets them like a never-ending fog. Unemployment is so rampant that Christopher is not getting any job. When one day he is unsuccessful at his job interview, he grows agitated and reveals a dark secret to his stepmother about a crime the couple committed almost a decade ago.
The stepmother makes a complaint against the Edwards couple to the police. The couple’s bodies get unearthed by the Mansfield police, and the Edwards claim innocence of the first, but Christopher tries to protect his wife. His vague claims of innocence boggle the officer in charge, Emma Lansing, and she starts to look into the couple’s history.
The series has generally gotten positive reviews from critics and viewers. The haunting and sad story is a bold approach that tells the audience a lot about human behavior.
The Cast of Landscapers Episode 1
The Academy Award winner Olivia Colman and Emmy Award Nominee David Thewlis play the unassuming couple, Susan and Christopher Edwards, who murdered Susan’s parents. Karl Johnson and Felicity Montagu play the victims of the crime. They are joined by Kate O’Flynn, Samuel Anderson, Daniel Rigby, Dipo Ola and Jay Phelps.
Anastasia Zabarchuk and Doug Grant also star in the uncredited roles. Ed Sinclair is the writer and creator with Will Sharpe as the director of the television mini-series.
