What Is It About?
Men in Kilts is a docuseries in its approach, where Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish starred as good friends of each other. They are all set to explore the corners of Scotland. As their journey of 8 episodes takes the audience into the highlands, city life, and attractions of Scotland; the flavor of Scottish hospitality reflects well throughout the series. Although the journey had its charisma of continuity, the episodes segregated them into categories, in order to help the viewers, keep a track of all being shown.
The first episode gives a good dose of food and beverage that the Scottish people live by. Haggis is a world-famous Scottish organ meat dish, which has so much to offer for the ones with a good palate of non-veg food. Tom Kitchin’s restaurant, one of the most eminent ones in Edinburgh awaited the place for the next venture. This Michelin star winning place offers a fine dining experience that leaves the customers with a dancing taste bud.
Langoustines and lobsters come next to rule the show when the duo boards a commercial fishing boat in the shore town of Fife. The next destination being Islay holds ten distilleries of whiskey.

Simon Weekes came out to be one of the epic cinematographers through his work in Men in Kilts. Roadtrips in a docuseries might seem to come out easily. But the work of the camera has a big role to play here. In most cases, the angle matters a lot, which actually distinguishes a documentary from other shows of cinematic importance. Gustaw Laskowicz, Ryan Rothmaier and Brian Triebwasser have put a good ounce of effort evidently reflecting in the editing of the series.
Direction
Kevin Johnston is one of the most prominent figures one knows of in the world of direction. He did absolute justice to the show, keeping the balance of information and a tinge of dramatics as per requirement. The places and topics of Scotland are not covered very well. But many of the unexplored points of the place also came out in a well-defined way through this docuseries.
It is needless to say that Men in Kilts is not very different from the Roadtrip shows, aired in the past. But the coordination among or between the hosts is one of the primary factors which can either take it to the top or drown it in the whirlpool of Mariana Trench.
Therein lies the secret of making a docuseries successful. While some points of the series might appear to be over-scripted, the spirit of bosom cronies projected by Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish from the beginning till the end outshines every imperfection the show has.
