American Rust has received a poor or mixed review by the critics. The series has been based on the novel by Philip Meyer, which very accurately portrays the problems and hardships faced by the working-class people in America, which is accurate and evident. When we read the novel’s plot, it seems to be about a shady and twisted murder mystery. However, this can not be said in the case of the TV show based on this novel.

The readers of the book have been immensely disappointed with the TV series. The critics said, “Jeff Daniels has failed to bring ‘American Rust to life. The fact that the show is predictable makes it flat and dull. And the plot flourishes on expedient and misunderstandings more often than human emotions, it portrays what it is like for the characters where they live and possibly end in a small town cliché.”

There are also a number of other reasons which mark this show as a failure. The cast of the TV series has not acted upto the level. The series began its downfall when it decided to spend almost an hour on flashbacks, which were absolutely unnecessary in the first episode.

Even though backstory is essential for the audience to understand the plot, but it could have been done by exchanging a few dialogues, which would have created a sense of ambiguity and would have caught the audience as the thriller show would have become unpredictable. Overall, this film has been disliked by critics and has received mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, which makes this to be skipped by the audience.
